March 2013 Non-Scale Victories

  1. Resisted lots of little things today, not only because they add up, but they also lead to bigger things, aka well I’ve already had that, I may as well have this…

  9. Took Moon Pie for a walk this a.m. instead of just letting her out back. The neighbors slept a little longer; I got some great exercise with a friend. As I was walking down the hall (to get a few extra steps), someone said, “Energy to burn!” And he was totally right.
  10. Contacted Publix for nutrition info on one of their prepared foods (Four Berry Yogurt Parfait). Was a little surprised, but it was good to know.

  21. Sister said she could see that I was losing weight again. (All compliments from Sister are big NSVs as they are very genuine; I don’t get them every day!)
  22. I ran out of chia seeds. Three years ago, I would’ve never imagined buying chia seeds, much less using an entire container and needing to buy more.
  23. Not only back in my 12p gray pants, but tucked a shirt in them, first time in a few months.
  24. Adding a little running to my treadmill walks and not having the lower back discomfort I was having in December.

December Non-Scale Victories

  1. Packed a lunch to take to the Santa Market so I wouldn’t be tempted by the food there.

  8. Unable to overcome craving for chicken fingers, so split them with someone instead.
  9. Resisted stopping for Cookout milkshake.
  10. Saw someone who hadn’t seen me in a while commented on how good I looked. Made me feel better about some of the vacation/holiday weight I’ve gained. Have to remember the positive — I’m still much thinner and healthier than I have been in years, despite a small gain.
  11. Even though splurging in NYC, still trying to drink water instead of sweetened drinks.
  12. Bought some healthy snacks and breakfasts for the room in NYC.

  26. Stocked up on fruit for the office to resist residual holiday treats

  29. Had coffee with a friend – also trying to connect to others more (and in person, not on line)
  30. Started a time management book and doing daily exercises to coordinate time better
  31. Sure enough asserted myself with someone. As hard as it may be at times to speak against the status quo and/or in defense of myself, I’m finding that I do myself no favors by letting something fester.

  4. After missing this a.m.’s workout and deciding to “rest” after a full day, overcame the temptation and worked out with Sister this evening.
  5. 10,000 steps by 7:15 a.m. today. WOOT!
  6. Planned for a splurge. Enjoyed half a cheeseburger and order of fries at Pawley’s Front Porch. Sent the evening in bed with a horrible stomachache, not because the food was “bad,” but because my body isn’t used toeating that way anymore.
  7. SERIOUSLY resisted buying my favorite ice cream during my Sunday grocery shopping. I knew I couldn’t have just half a cup.
  8. I can no longer crack a nut by standing on it in the driveway. It’s a particular nut, one that falls from a tree in our yard. The driveway is full of them. Many pounds ago, I could step on one and crack it.When I tried tonight, I couldn’t. Funny, but neat.

  20. Splurged a little at brunch, but still resisted the really bad stuff like biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage

  31. Wore some fab Halloween tights today, one size fits most, that I wouldn’t have fit two years ago

  7. In addition to making an appearance in my black and white dress, as well as my Nike workout pants, my once flat booty made an appearance in my jeans today!
  8. Today I saw a casual acquaintance out and about, and she quoted something from my blog. She said something like “Like you said on your blog, blah blah blah…” It makes me smile to think others are getting something from the blog.
  9. This email message from a friend: You are so inspiring.  I’ve been trying to be good this week.  I’m even going out to dinner tonight and I have a plan for what to order so I don’t undo all the good work I’ve done all week!  Your consistency reminds me that if I stick to it, I can do it.
  10. I can stand on things without them breaking now, like standing on a recycling bin to reach something in my office. My first thought is “that’s gonna break,” then I remember that I’m 100 lbs. lighter.

  18. 10,000 steps before noon!
  19. As the official photographer for today’s Public Works Touch a Truck event, I was able to get a lot better pictures than last year because I was able to bend, stoop and squat with ease, much more so than the same time last year. It was an epiphany when I realized it, and I said out loud to no one, “I couldn’t do this last year!”
  20. Last night’s sleep was 96% effective, the highest since I started monitoring it with my Fitbit.
  21. Made it to the gym at 5 a.m. three days last week, like old times; I was there before Daniel even.
  22. Co-worker posted a picture of me from Touch-A-Truck, and the first few minutes, I didn’t realize it was me. Was trying to figure out who it was  – then I saw my name on it. Weird, but neat feeling.
  23. Impressed even Scott Elliott with my 45-minutes on the elliptical
  24. Attempted a pull up today, on my own, on the bar outside of the gym. I couldn’t do one — YET — but I saw the bar and wanted to try. That itself is a victory.

  31. For the first time ever, I was excited about buying a bathing suit. I picked out what I’d usually pick and then what I liked but “couldn’t wear” and chose the couldn’t wear. (It was a tankini top with horizontal stripey designs — I would never wear horizontal stripes b/c they make you look bigger. )

April Non-Scale Victories

  1. No longer have to worry that airplane seat belt might not fit
  2. Felt a little awkward bring my lunch to a workshop until someone said, “Hey, where did you get the strawberries?”

  18. Did 60 minutes on the elliptical, a personal best
  19. Sister found and texted me one of my “fat” pictures and was very complimentary of my loss. She later said that she thought I’d been distorting these “before” pictures because she doesn’t remember me being so large, but that now she could see that I really was. (It doesn’t sound like it, LOL, but it was a huge compliment.)
  20. Finally fit into a pair of 10p pants that Mom gave me months ago. They were on sale big time, and even though they were too tight, I decided to keep them. It’s taken a while to get onto them, so it was great to finally wear them.
  21. Someone who very rarely gives compliments gave me one about how well I was doing. THAT was a big deal.
  22. Caught a glance of myself in the big mirrors at the gym and was actually happy with the way my body looked (minus the 5 a.m. bed head, of course)

  17. I felt better than I have felt in years today.

  19. I rocked Traci’s “elliptical challenge.”

  22. Got into a new pair of size 10 petite pants that Mom gave me months ago. They’ve been too tight since she gave them to me. (Unfortunately, ironing out the wrinkles is as hard as losing the weight to get in to them. Taking them to the cleaners this afternoon.)

  26. Literally had a victory over the scales this a.m. Found myself wondering how “Two in Two” is going. I almost weighed, but decided 1) not seeing progress may discourage me, and 2) if I wait a few more days, I may see even more progress than I would today. So I didn’t weigh.
  27. Another someone I’ve known forever but not seen in a while didn’t recognize me
  28. My newish size eight pants are getting quite loose

  20. When discussing med dosages, nurse said, “You’re small, like me.”

  28. Arranged to have groceries delivered to my hotel room in Kansas City so I could continue to eat well while away.
  29. Someone at our APWA meeting drew cartoons of each of us; mine included a carrot and tomato
  30. Made soup with cabbage in it (next NSV will be when I actually eat it!)
  31. Wore an above the knee dress, and two people randomly told me that my legs looked great.

November Non-Scale Victories

  1. Had planned on a day off from exercise b/c I overslept and had an evening meeting, but packed my workout clothes and went after meeting
  2. Rocked new outfit: size 10 skirt, small sweater, size 10 jacket
  3. Put the scale in the bathroom closet, no longer out and/or easily accessible for daily weigh-ins
  4. All of my rings are now too big
  5. Bought a fab size 8 pair of pants and small shirt today
  6. Wore a size M workout pants from Target
  7. Had a really great elliptical workout today
  8. Overcame inertia big time to do exercises in my hotel room
  9. While in a meeting in Atlanta, someone I’d never met from Washington, DC said, “I’ve heard about your great weight loss success.”
  10. Made it back to training after a two-week grief hiatus
  11. Resisted – and I mean really resisted – a temptation for fast food
  12. Ordered Roma tomatoes on my vegan, whole wheat pizza and actually ate them
  13. I ate 10 dark chocolate Dove Promises, but resisted the urge to just eat the whole dang bag. Was very happy to stop at 10, even though that’s more than usual.
  14. Did not recognize myself in a picture today. It was from a panel discussion I did at the APWA Congress, and when I saw the picture of the full panel, I couldn’t figure out why I’d been cropped out. It was only on a third look that I realized that I WAS in it!
  15. Still get tickled when someone who hasn’t seen me in a while doesn’t recognize me
  16. 36C
  17. Craved a cheeseburger today, so I bought some healthy ingredients and had one. Not at all the wonderful thing I remembered.  Kinda just ‘meh.
  18. Wore some fab, funky patterned tights today. So many fun patterns available in “regular” size tights than the “plus” size ones
  19. With a new cut and color, even I didn’t recognize me!
  20. Wore a Small Petite shirt today
  21. Survived an emotional eating binge w/o totally blowing it.
  22. A size 12p pair of pants I bought in mid-September are now almost  too big.
  23. After 14 months of work outs, I am finally noticing a small lift in my booty. This is quite exciting!
  24. I shot hoops for about 90 minutes today. And wasn’t half bad.
  25. Bought a hot petite small leopard print shirt today!
  26. Did I mention that I still have half of a bag of peppermint bark squares left over from December, 2010?
  27. I could’ve taken a size smaller in the new Supergirl t-shirt from the junior department
  28. ALMOST in a size small Life is Good shirt. In absence of women’s medium, bought man’s small.
  29. Wearing a size 8 petite jacket.
  30. Made a fab pizza with whole wheat crust and fresh chopped tomatoes. And didn’t take the tomatoes off when I ate it.
