I am a woman of 46 – with the palate of a six-year-old – who is improving my life through exercise and healthier eating.
I was on my first diet in fourth grade and have had a love-hate relationship with food ever since. Needless to say, I’ve always struggled with my weight.
When my grandmother came to live with my parents a couple of years ago, I had a midlife crisis of sorts. I realized that when I got to my grandmother’s age, I may not have anyone to help take care of me. I decided that I needed to take proactive steps to improve my health; it’s hard enough aging without extra weight working against you.
Enter my employer, the City of Columbia, who partnered with Doctors Wellness Center (DWC) for a 12-week wellness program. I started in September, 2010 and haven’t looked back. Today, I am stronger, healthier and almost 100 lbs. lighter.
I started this blog to document my participation in the program and hold myself accountable. I call it Lean Green MP because:
- The DWC 12-week nutrition plan places a heavy emphasis on eating plant-based foods
- I’m a Sustainability Facilitator, aka Green Queen, so it seemed particularly fitting
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, nutritionist or fitness professional. I am just someone who has transitioned to a healthier lifestyle. On this blog, I share what has worked for me, what hasn’t and resources I find helpful. This blog should not replace consultation with your medical professional.
